WAR FOR INDEPENDENCE
Spain had been both friend and foe of France during its Revolution-and those roles took their toll on Spain. A financial crisis swept the nation, and Mexico felt the strain. The ruler of Spain was usurped and replaced by the French, and discontent swept over the land. Famine and economic slowdown hit the people of Mexico hard, and they soon decided to rebel.
